Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin reported that Russian troops shot 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war near the villages of Mykolaivka and Sukhy Yar in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk. This was announced by the prosecutor's office in an official Telegram channel. Ukrainian officials have already appealed to international organizations, accusing Russia of yet another violation of the Geneva Conventions. This mass killing, described by Kostin as the largest known execution of Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines, adds more evidence of war crimes committed by Russian troops.
A report by the UN also highlights the widespread and systematic torture of Ukrainian prisoners, with nearly every former prisoner reporting brutal treatment in Russian captivity, including beatings and electric shocks.
Earlier, CNN published a video of similar incidents with footage provided by Ukrainian military intelligence, showing how Russian soldiers kill Ukrainian soldiers who have surrendered. These cases are part of an ongoing investigation by Ukraine into at least 28 similar incidents since the beginning of the war, related to the killings of 62 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
