On January 14, the 2nd Western District Military Court in Moscow sentenced seven Ukrainian servicemen to 15 to 16 years in prison. They are accused of committing actions related to military operations in the Kursk region, the Russian Investigative Committee reports.
Russian media report that the court found the participation of Ukrainian troops in military operations in the Kursk region since August 6 to be a violation of the law. Since then, clashes have continued in the region, and the Ukrainian army has declared control over dozens of settlements. In early January, information was also received about a new offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
There may be several thousand Russian civilians in the territories currently under Ukrainian control. Ukraine has expressed its readiness to cooperate with the Red Cross and the UN to provide humanitarian aid to these citizens, citing the obligations of the occupying state under international law. However, the Russian authorities have not agreed to such assistance.
